Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 Official Trailer Released
Paramount+ has released the official trailer for Season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The season will premiere on Thursday, July 17, 2025, and air new episodes on a weekly basis every Thursday through September 11, 2025. The trailer was shared today after only an official teaser trailer was shared in April.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 picks up on the tail end of a high-stakes space battle, a recurring set piece in the series. The Enterprise and its crew are in the midst of another attack from the Gorn, who have taken a Federation colony world by force. The spacecraft manages to arrive on the scene just in time, but several of its crew are captured and held hostage along with other survivors.
Season 2 had ended on this cliffhanger, with Captain Pike being forced to choose whether to obey orders to evacuate the planet and leave his crew behind or go against Starfleet and risk his career to try and rescue them. As always, Pike decides to try and save his crew, and he and the others put a plan into action as the season premieres.
The October 2023 preview of Season 3, which was shared as a part of the 2023 New York City Comic-Con presentations, ended right at this moment, and the trailer in the official new trailer, released just last night. It promises the continuation of the fight against the Gorn and then a finale to their threat and the promise of new threats and adventures to come.
The trailer also promises that the crew of the Enterprise, while still under Pike’s command, will find plenty of danger in the new season. While this specific threat will see its resolution, a new villain will come along that will truly challenge the loyalties and bravery of the crew. The new trailer shares a promise that the series will be mixing up more episode types than some of the other shows in the Star Trek canon. Not just the episodic science fiction stories, but those that focus on more themes of faith, service, love, comedy, and even the mystery elements.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 also promises genre shifts, which have not been done in prior Trek series to this point.
It has also been confirmed that all of the main cast members, as well as recurring cast members, will be back for the new season. There is one notable cast addition, as well, in the form of Cillian O’ Sullivan. He will be playing the role of Dr. Roger Korby, a character who first debuted in The Original Series, played by Michael Strong. This is a form of legacy character casting, but in the Strange New Worlds timeline, Korby is an accomplished archaeologist with a specialty in medical archaeology and Chapel’s missing fiancé. O’ Sullivan’s casting for the role was announced several months ago, but was not confirmed on the set until last week.
In Strange New Worlds, Korby is long-lost and missing and will be reuniting with Chapel, who has recently started a relationship with Spock in Kirk’s absence. The reason for Korby’s return and the full history of his relationship with Chapel will be explained.
Other guest stars confirmed for Season 3 include Rhys Darby and Patton Oswalt, each of whom will be playing different comedic roles. This April teaser trailer even hinted at both of these genre episode changes, including a promise of action-packed spacefaring adventures, as well as some lighter, comedic side stories. The new trailer seems to continue this theme as it shares plenty of story promises, and it also focuses on these interpersonal character beats.
It shows more light bonding moments between the crew, including some fun story elements like the Enterprise under a regeneration lockdown, a testy romantic subplot with Spock, and even Spock trying to “help” one of the other science officers with her volatile personality.
One of the final shots of the trailer is a tease of a story arc later in the season. James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) is sitting in the captain’s chair, but he is being instructed on the nature of command. While the whole plot that this will lead to is not revealed, it is known that it will be Kirk’s first time taking on command and that his character’s appearance in the new season will be his character development leading up to and after the events of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
He is informed by Pike that “The choices you make in that chair, they are yours to make and yours to live with.”
The trailer finishes on a light note, showing one of the new season’s few comedy beats. Oswalt’s Vulcan character and Spock are having a conversation about high fives, as Spock is teaching the character.
Spock can land a high five with the other Vulcan. When asked to repeat the gesture on the “down low,” Spock pulls the old trick by being too slow, and the other Vulcan asks why. In response, Spock replies, “Because you are too slow.”
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 will premiere on Thursday, July 17, 2025, on Paramount+ and air new episodes every Thursday until September 11, 2025.
The series has also been renewed for Season 4, which has not yet had a release date revealed.
